Sandy was born to parents Donald and Evelyn Dittman on March 27, 1953, in Duluth, MN. She grew up with her younger sister, Karla, in Doland, SD and attended Doland High School. She married Doug Olson on August 10, 1974, and graduated South Dakota State University with a bachelor of science in nursing that winter as a member of Alpha Xi Delta. In 1975, Sandy and Doug moved to Nuremberg, Germany while Doug was active duty in the U.S. Army. Sandy started her nursing career abroad, and they traveled Europe extensively. They returned stateside in 1979, residing in Minneapolis, MN where their son, Perryn was born in 1980. In 1982, she moved to Terrytown worked at Meadowcrest Hospital, Advanced Care, and Concentra and was honored as one of the Great 100 Nurses in 1989. After retiring in 2005, she fostered kittens for Spaymart.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Douglas Olson; their son, Perryn Olson and his wife, Erica Roddy; granddaughter Clara and expected granddaughter Colleen; and her sister Karla Spear. She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald Dittman and Evelyn Cyr.
A celebration of her life will be held in the parlor of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 3:30 PM. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM, and continue after the service until 7:00 PM.
