Shyrel Mearl Richard

Shyrel H. Richard passed away on August 9, 2025 at the age of 83. She was born on August 10,1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Russell and Mearl Baudean Hughes. Shyrel was the devoted wife of Gerald Richard, loving mother of Lori Mathieu (Tony) and David Richard, and proud grandmother of Avery and Aubrey Coggins and Andrew Richard (Kaitlin). She was the cherished sister of the late Diane Gullo, Sandra Blanchard, and Debbie Fremin, and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.

A longtime member of the Theta Golden Age Club and formerly of the Red Hat Society, Shyrel enjoyed shopping trips, weekend getaways with friends, road trips, and cruises with Gerald. She was an avid New Orleans Saints fan, loved tending to her flower beds, and could often be found working crossword puzzles. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially during holidays and birthdays, which brought her the greatest joy.

Shyrel’s warmth, laughter, and love will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation for Shyrel on Friday, August 15, 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero.
