Ada was born on July 13, 1939, in Montreal, Canada. She graduated from Rosemont High School on October 25, 1957. Ada was always a dedicated employee and worked initially as a Page Girl at the Royal Bank of Canada; a Candy Striper and Nurse’s Aide for the Red Cross in Canada; and then as a secretary for the Harmon US Air Force Base in Stephenville (Newfoundland) Canada, where she met her lifelong husband, Donald (Don) K. Fowler, Sr. They eventually married on October 24, 1964.
Ada faithfully served as a military spouse in times of war and peace. She routinely overcame the challenges of a military spouse of a deployed husband, often alone with up to three kids. She returned to Montreal with one child in the late 1960’s while Don deployed to Vietnam with the Air Force. Then later, in the early-1970’s, she stayed unaccompanied in South Carolina with three children until she could move the family to Germany to join Don for his Army tour. Subsequently she helped the family retire from the military in the Augusta/FT Gordon area in 1977.
Ada was always the model parent, Homemaker, Family Caregiver and Household Manager. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and made the best Chicken and Dumplings. She was always a loyal and supportive spouse and mother. She was a Girl Scout mother and later, a model Evans High School band parent. She volunteered with the Band Boosters through the late 1980’s and always went above and beyond to help provide whatever they needed to be successful.
Ada loved all the holiday seasons, being with family, laughing- she loved being happy and laughing til she cried! She went through a lifetime maintaining contact with lifelong childhood friends and career military families she met along the way. She was an All-American US Naturalized resident yet a proud Canadian citizen with Irish, British and Scottish grandparents. Ada always honored those family roots, and always remained an avid fan of ice-skating, ice-hockey, the winter Olympics, and the British monarchy. She had a passion for collecting memorabilia from these current events.
She was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, until the travels were beyond her strength. And she loved her pet cats and dogs, Mitzie, Kitty, Abby, and Babyboy.
Ada worked at the Covenant Presbyterian Church Mother’s Day Out Program in the 1990’s. She loved children and enjoyed caring for them, as if her own. She was especially fond of Frank, Jackson and Coleman Fleming.
Ada is predeceased by her husband Donald K. Fowler, Sr., parents William Lewis Minister and Isabel Cullen Watson Minister; sister Louise Isabel Campbell. Survivors include her children, Teresa A.
