Mrs. Mixon and her late husband, K. Wayne Mixon, were originally from Winnsboro, South Carolina. They have resided in a number of places, but lived in Augusta, Georgia since 1996.
Mrs. Mixon earned a B.A. from the University of South Carolina and a Master's degree in Education from Mercer University. During and after her formal collegiate education, Mrs. Mixon had a number of elementary teaching posts in her career–in Mississippi, and in Macon and Augusta, Georgia. A victorious struggle with cancer in her early thirties interrupted her crusade, but she resumed and taught small children until retirement. After retirement, the children she mainly focused on were her grandkids.
"Fran", as Mrs. Mixon was known to most, or, more importantly, "Ahmee", to her grandchildren, was, along with her late husband and her son, a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Augusta, Georgia.
Mrs. Mixon is preceded in death by her husband; her parents, James B. Frazier III and Frances E. Frazier of Winnsboro, South Carolina, and sister; Locketta Stephenson of Lancaster, South Carolina. Survivors include her son, Phillip E. Mixon of Martinez; her daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and James Attwood of Atlanta; and two grandchildren, Locke and Emma Attwood. She is also survived by her twin sister, Ann F. Melton, of Irmo, South Carolina; her senior brother James B. Frazier IV; her junior brother Locke Frazier, Sr., both of Winnsboro, South Carolina; and innumerable nieces, nephews, and cousins that live all over the state of South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held with the Reverends Andy and Katelyn Cooke officiating at Covenant Presbyterian on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 1 p.m. The service will also be recorded so that it can be viewed at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3131 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909 or online contributions at Give Now (onrealm.org) by selecting “Memorials.”
