Gene Brady Meads, Sr., 88, passed away at home with his family on February 25, 2018. He was predeceased by his father, Ernest H. Meads, his mother Louise Brady Meads, his sister Peggy Meads Moseley and his daughter Meredith Louise Meads.
Mr. Meads is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Carolyn King Meads; his children Caralynne Meads Gill(John), Gena Meads Griffin(Jim), Beth Meads Loyal(Ray), Gene Brady Meads Jr., Rebecca Meads Birchfield(Nancy), and Leah Meads Hofstadter(John). He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, his 29 greatgrandchildren, and 7 great-greatgrandchildren.
Mr. Meads was born in Augusta, Ga and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He attended the Academy of Richmond County and Augusta College and taught courses on tax appraisal at UGA. He joined the Marine Corps during the Korean War, served on the Augusta Fire Department, and then worked in the Richmond County Tax Appraiser office, where he became Chief Tax Appraiser. He also served as chief appraiser in seven Georgia counties and directed the reappraisal of several more. A true Renaissance man, he excelled in music, literature, horticulture and barbequing.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Massaro, Frank Griffin, Martin Malone, and Zachary Meads and great-grandsons, Tyler Jump and Ashton Malone.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1305 Troup St., Augusta, GA. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
