

Jane was born in her Grandmother’s house on a farm in Monroe County, Georgia in 1931.
She was an honor graduate of Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, Georgia. She earned a B.S. Degree, magna cum laude from Bessie Tift College in Forsyth and a M.S. degree in Biology from Emory University in 1953.
She taught Biology at Armstrong College, Augusta College and Paine College, and retired in 1979. She has published articles in several scientific journals and books on her family genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth Gibson and Silas Leaman Thomas, and her brother Silas Leaman Thomas Jr.
Survivors include her daughters Dell Rowland Mitravich (Mark) and Anna Rowland Dobbs (Tim), two granddaughters, Laura Jane Borden Kaminer (Woody) and Sarah Jane Mitravich, and 4 great grandchildren, Bayle, Blake, Logan and Lucy Claire Kaminer, sister in law, Violet Thomas.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the home of Laura and Woody Kaminer, Tudor Branch, Grovetown, Georgia.
Those who want to remember Jane may make a contribution to one of her favorite libraries including Reese Library at GRU, the Augusta Richmond County Library, the Columbia County Library or the Augusta Genealogical Society.
