

John Thomas Gill, 83, passed away in Lexington Medical Center of West Columbia, SC, with family at his side, on October 6th, 2024. He was predeceased by his mother, Catherine Lambert Gill, and his father, John Patrick Gill.
Mr. Gill is survived by his wife, Caralynne Meads Gill, his sister, Beth Gill Eber (Jerry), his brothers, Robert Gill and Jimmy Gill, his niece, Grace Gill-Briattico and Jennifer Poole (Liz) , and nephew, Sebastian Brendan Poole (Mary Helen). He is also survived by his children, Phillip Smith (Sarah), Michael Massaro, and Kara Massaro Jones (Corey); and his grandchildren, Thomas Burke (Amanda), Jenny Burke (Chevey), Rebecca Massaro, Tristan Massaro, Alex Lizer, Aimée Lizer, Richard "Ricky" Bradley (Orion), Reginald Bradley (CeCe), Brianna Bradley, and Aaron Jones, and his 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by dear friends who became like family.
He was born John Thomas Gill in New York, New York on June 14th, 1941. He graduated in 1961 from the Academy of Richmond County. he then joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. He then worked in retail management for many years, and even worked until shortly before he died. His work ethic was an example to all, especially the next generation.
During his life, John participated in the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of the American Legion Post #193. He was a proud, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Pallbearers will be family representatives.
In his honor, donations may be made to the Saint Jude Children's Hospital, the Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (located in Columbia), and to Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens.
A visitation for John will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Rd, Martinez, Georgia 30907. A funeral service at 1:00 PM, followed by interment at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Rd, Augusta, Georgia 30904.
