

Born January 12, 1921 in Hedgesville, he was the son of the late Samuel and Amy Hedges Murphy.
Bernard served in the United States Army for two years during WW II. He retired from Fairchild Aircraft.
He was a member of Hedgesville Church and Johnsontown Bible Church. Bernard was also a charter member of Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Company and a lifetime member of Tomahawk Ruritan Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Miller Murphy; two sons: Darrell Murphy and wife, Linda of Falling Waters, and Douglas Murphy and wife, Pat of Hedgesville; one step-son, Vincent Miller and wife, Donna of Hedgesville; one sister, Juanita Harrison of Martinsburg; four grandchildren: Teddy Murphy, Tracy (Murphy) Lawson, Rodney Murphy, and Beth Anne (Murphy) Streets; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Leah Amelia Murphy; his daughter, Mary Louise Murphy; two sisters, Mabel Butts and Frances Shirley; and four brothers: Paul, Lester, Ralph, and Carl Murphy.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to his caregiver, Barbara Inman.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am at Hedgesville Church. Interment will follow in Hedgesville Cemetery.
