Dorothy L McDaniel

Born October 1, 1935 in Jefferson County, WV. She was adopted at a young age by the late Charles and Anna Nicewarner. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years Ellsworth “Elzie” McDaniel in January 2025, and her four siblings, sisters Margaret (Margie), Elva, Lilly and brother Walter (Buzz).

A beloved wife, Mom and Mam Maw, she is survived by her three children Ginny Whipp (husband Joe), Dana Gardner and Mark McDaniel. She was blessed with four grandchildren; Ketih Gardner (wife Amber), Ciara Whipp, Jackson McDaniel and Seth McDaniel, and two great grandchildren; Brayden and Connor Gardner.

Dorothy graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1953. She worked at Perfection garment as a switchboard operator and then spent time caring for her family and raising her children. She returned to the workforce with Montgomery Ward Catalog, as an assistant to the manager for many years. She then worked at Shenandoah Savings and Loan and City Bank as a receptionist until she retired in her early 70’s.

Dorothy was the bond that tied her family together with holiday and birthday celebrations and ordinary backyard fun. Through the years, she led girl scout troops and 4-H clubs, organized neighborhood block parties, and enjoyed attending the many sporting events for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 7th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Rosedale Funeral Home. Services will be held at Rosedale on Tuesday, July 8th at 11:00 am with interment to follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
