Betty Jean Dickson died peacefully in her sleep on August 11, 2022, at the age of 94. Betty was born June 22, 1928, the beloved only child of Elmer and Mary Dahlgren. Raised in Seattle, WA she spent her entire life in the Pacific Northwest area. Betty trusted in Christ as her Savior and Redeemer at age 9. When Betty was 11 years old, her mother Mary passed away after an extended illness. At that time Betty and her father moved to her grandparents’ ranch. She spent much time there with her cousin, Charlotte Hill, who became like a sister to her.
As a youth, Betty was very athletic and loved active sports. She played baseball, basketball, volleyball and field hockey. Her favorite pastime was shooting baskets. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle, WA in 1946.
Betty met her husband of 62 years, John Dickson, while they were students at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland OR. They graduated in 1949 and then attended Western Washington College of Education in Bellingham, WA where she graduated in 1953. They were united in marriage June 5th, 1954, and blessed with two daughters: Janet and Beth. For 31 years, Betty worked as an elementary school teacher, first in Oak Harbor then in Everett, Washington where the family resided since 1961. Travel was an important part of life after retirement. Betty & John enjoyed many road trips together visiting family, friends, and sights all across the nation. For many years Betty also patiently and lovingly set an example of caregiving when they took in and cared for John’s mother and later, her own father.
Betty was always an integral part of the churches she attended. A loyal servant to God, she spent many hours teaching Sunday school, leading women's Bible studies, and playing the piano for services. She began as church pianist at age 12 and continued for 80 years, until age 92. Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those around her, and was known as an avid prayer warrior.
Now that Betty has gone to be with her Lord and Savior at the end of her physical life on earth, it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful life in heaven. Betty joins her parents, Elmer and Mary Dahlgren, stepmother Florence Dahlgren, husband John Dickson, granddaughter Jenessa Hlad, and great grandson Austin Tyrrell, in heaven. She is survived by many loving family members including her two daughters: Janet and husband Don Hehe, Beth and husband Randy Hlad, 6 grandchildren: Jeff Hehe, Josh Hehe, Misty (Hehe) and husband John Tyrrell, Elisa (Hlad) and husband Don Agler, Ben Hlad, Tyler Hlad and wife Angela, 11 great grandchildren: Ian, Evan, Owen, Aiden, and Dean Tyrrell, Micah, Emma, and Nora Agler, Macie, Myles, and Makaylie Hlad, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
