Rene Lathrop

Dad was intensely honest and forthright.. I made slushies when I was a kid. I switched the salt and sugar and they were nasty. I gave one to dad to try expecting him to say they were good-but knowing they weren't. Dad made a face and said, "Well, sprout, you won't be a chef." Then he took me to get a slurpee. "They make it so we don't have to." That memory is dad.

Dad was extraordinarily funny. We were driving around town, we see a woman bent over in her yard, rear in the air. "Good time for a beebee gun. Target practice." That memory is dad.

Dad was insanely giving. Waiting in the Wendy's drive through, we see a homeless man with a sign. I said something derogatory that someone else had said once. Dad said, "We don't know what he's been through." Dad bought him a biggie meal and made me walk it to him. That memory is dad.

Dad was the king of empathy. My strongest memory from childhood was when I was crying over some stupid boy to dad. I looked over and he was crying too. I said, "Dad, why are you crying?" He said, "When you hurt. I hurt." That memory is dad.

Love you always.

One of my favorite quotes that dad would say to me after quite a few times of the same mistakes or bad choices...

"Well, if you keep on doing what you always done, you're always gonna get what you got... and what is that? -- define insanity Tami. --- Thank you dad for always having so much faith that I would adventually figure it out.

Another one... When I couldn't find something I was looking for...
"Look with your eyes open dear" --- also very helpful -- If you know my dad.... that would make you smile.

I sure miss my dad... every Friday on my way to work checking in... Saturdays meals out and scrabble. Stopping by for prayer and a hug.. all of those little and not so little things.
