

Woodson Taulbee ("Woodie") Wood, born February 24, 1928 died at his home on May 22, 2014. Born and reared in Maysville, Kentucky, he was the son of Donald Lansdale Wood and Evelyn Taulbee Wood Galanty. He was a graduate of Maysville High School, attended the University ofMichigan and University of Kentucky, and graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Law in 1950. He was a prosecutor in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Army serving as a 1st lieutenant until 1954, when he returned to Maysville. Woodson always believed that the practice of law was an honorable profession, and maintained the utmost trust, integrity and fairness in his dealings with others. He served as Commonwealth's Attorney for Mason, Fleming and Bracken Counties for 37 years, and was appointed by then Governor Brereton Jones as Interim Circuit Judge in 1995. He served as President of the Kentucky Commonwealth Attorney's Association and was proud to serve on the Kentucky Bar Association Character and Fitness Committee. In addition to his legal pursuits, Woodie also loved sports. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball and football fan. He also played tennis until his mid-60's, basketball until he was 68, softball until age 71, and golf until age 84. Woodson was a true fan of Maysville, and many of his activities were centered around this town. He was a key member of the local committee which spearheaded the establishment of the Maysville-Mason Co. Recreation Park. He started the Maysville Industrial Basketball League. He was a founder of the Maysville Duplicate Bridge Club, lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church and the leader of and lead trombone player for Wood's Big Band. Woodie was an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and served as the IOOF Ky. Grand Master in 1967. He was well-known for his love of playing bridge, oil painting, studying genealogy, playing music, and most of all, his love of his family. Woodson is survived by his wife, Betty Bower Wood, whom he married in 1952; his children Stockton (Patti) Wood and their children Duncan and Rebecca; Ann (Phil) Singer and their children Julia, Ryan and Greg; Jane Wood and her children Katie Blakefield, Andrew (Tressia) Blakefield and Tyler Blakefield; Mary (Dick) Schmalzl and their children Evelyn (Dahlian) Anderson, William and Ellie; Andrew (Beth) Wood and their children Walker, Drew, Emily and Alex; and his granddaughter Sarah Wood. He is preceded in death by his son, Woodson Wood, Jr., and his granddaughter, Laura Schmalzl. He is also survived by his brother, Donald L. Wood, Jr., several nieces and nephews and several cousins. Funeral services for Woodson T. Wood will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Laura McKnight officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, May 26, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, 31 W. 3rd Street, Maysville, KY 41056, to the DeKalb Lodge Woodson Wood Scholarship Fund, 16 1/2 West 2nd Street, Maysville, KY 41056 or to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home.
