

Barbara Ann Hammock Gardner passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 at The Woods Assisted Living Center in Griffin, GA. Ann was born in Henry County on April 6, 1932 to the late Henry Carson Hammock and Ruby Lee Crumbley Hammock. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Samuel Howell Gardner, Jr.; sister, Hazel Hammock Gardner; brothers Bob, Bill Jimmy and Larry Hammock.
Ann supported her husband in running Gardner Hardware and Gardner Farm. She loved growing flowers and working in the yard; growing, canning and cooking vegetables; blueberries and the blueberry patch were her favorite! Ann enjoyed traveling and vacationing with her family on Jekyll Island, a family tradition she started in 1959 and that continues today. She loved being Me-Mama to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter. She was known for being a great cook; gave homemade goodies at Christmas; always had a cake or something sweet plus jars full of candy for anyone who stopped by to visit. Ann was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Locust Grove. Over the years, she worked in several different fields during her career but her most important role was raising her five children.
Ann is survived by her children and spouses; Chipper (Norma) Gardner of Milner, Lee (Judy) Gardner of Robbinsville, NC, Beth (Jeff) Floyd of Jackson, Tim (Kathy) Gardner of Macon and Tom (Lori) Gardner of Hampton; grandchildren Al (Nicole) Gardner of Milner, Katie (Corey) Bannister of Griffin, Jennifer (Jake) Carter of McDonough, Erin (Justin) Peters of Locust Grove, Luke (Athena) Gardner of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Ansley (Chris) Glenn of Jackson, Linsey (Paul) Floyd of Griffin, Molly (Pierre) Malveaux of Columbus, Whit Gardner of Peachtree City, Wyatt Gardner of Locust Grove, Megan (Dillon) States of Thomaston and Cole Gardner of Covington, nineteen and a half great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; sisters, Mary Jo Leverette of Locust Grove and Linda (Ed) Branan of Eatonton, Sister-in-laws Juanita Hammock of Huntsville, Texas, Tommie Hammock of Canton, Clara Hammock of Richland; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023 - 3:00 pm in the Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. Luke Gardner will officiate. Interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Sunday from 1:30 pm until the hour of service.
Special thanks to the staff at The Woods Assisted Living Center for their loving care of Mama during her time there and becoming her second family. Also, the nurses and support staff from Eternal Hope Hospice who were so kind and compassionate to Mama and her family in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate live plants such as blueberry bushes or hydrangeas which were Ann’s favorites or those who wish may make a donation to Eternal Hope Hospice, 123 N 18th Street, Griffin, GA 30223 or to the church of their choice in memory of Ann.
