Glenn Allen Coffey, 68, of Jenkinsburg, Georgia, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Friday, January 15, 2021. He is survived by his wife Benita Coffey, daughters and sons-in-law Lori and Daniel Hancock of Lexington, KY, Stacy and Paul McClanahan of Fayetteville, GA, and Mikayla and Lee Cagle of Newnan, GA, and grandchildren Veronica, Matthew, Warren, Will, and Jack. Glenn was born in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Mitchell and Betty Robinson Coffey. He is survived by his six siblings Sonny (and Sara) Coffey, Debbie (and Larry) Hall, Ramona (and Dan) Fox, Terry (and Jimmy) Hall, Carolyn (and Jimmy) Johnson, and Michael (and Beth) Coffey. Glenn began most days by reading scriptures from the King James Bible while drinking a cup of coffee before heading outside to feed his mules and dogs. He was a man of many interests that evolved over the years. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing in Central Kentucky. He enjoyed the freedom of driving long-haul semis and working the yard for S&B Cattle Company (Bluegrass Stockyards), starting Coffey’s Hay and Straw with his father, and later driving for himself before leasing on as a contractor with Bennett Motor Express. Bear hunting and running Plott Hounds in the mountains of western North Carolina and Wisconsin occupied his weekends. When he moved to Georgia in 1994, he added boar hunting in Southern Georgia to his activities. After acquiring a few mules, Glenn met many of his closest friends and enjoyed some of his best memories. He enjoyed wagon rides, cowboy chuck wagon cook-offs, and trail riding. After retiring from Bennett on his 66th birthday in 2018, he spent some of his happiest days riding his mules and fishing. And without a doubt, the love Glenn had for his family was unconditional and unmeasurable.
A private service will be held at Heritage Baptist on Monday, January 18, 2021, and a private graveside burial will be held at a later date in Bryson City, North Carolina. Paul McClanahan, Daniel Hancock, Lee Cagle, Matthew McClanahan, Warren Hancock, and Will McClanahan will serve as pallbearers. Bobby Robinson, Sonny Coffey, and Michael Coffey will serve as honorary pallbearers. A memorial trail ride will be held later this spring. Details will be posted on Facebook and on the Back Country Horsemen of Middle and South Georgia website: www.backcountryhorsemenga.com
