James Gordon Chapman, age 83, of Stockbridge, GA passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021. ‘Chappy’, as he was known to most people, loved to fish, loved to build things, and loved the Atlanta Braves. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964, and he retired from many years as a welder at Great Dane Trailers in Atlanta. After retirement in 1999, he moved to the mountains and was a faithful member of Murphy Church of Christ in Murphy, NC until moving back to GA in 2017 where he was a part of the Fairview Church of Christ family in Stockbridge, GA. He is preceded in death first by his son Scotty, father Frank, brother Henry, mother Jewel, and his beloved wife of 10 years Ruth. Chappy is survived by his two daughters, Michelle (Mark) Freeman and Angie (Jeff) Benton and five granddaughters, DeAnna, Devon, Amber (Blake), Lindi and Allison and 2 great-grandchildren, Will and Charlotte as well as many loved nieces, nephews, several cousins and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 10th at 11:00am at Fairview Church of Christ, Stockbridge, GA with Minister, Jerry Whitmire officiating.
