James Rogers Firebaugh Jr.

Lt. Col. James Rogers Firebaugh Jr., (retired) age 88, of McDonough, GA passed away October 3, 2018. Bud was born in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late Williette Weaver Firebaugh and James Rogers Firebaugh Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Catherine McGarity Firebaugh.

Bud graduated from Henry County High School and received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech. He served his country in the USAF from July 1951 until July of 1977. As a Pilot, he flew the F-86 Sabre Jet in Korean War and also flew reconnaissance in the Vietnam War. Bud was a member of McDonough Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf, traveling and attending his F-86 Sabre reunions every year in Vegas.

Survivors are his children, Martain F. Stanley (Mickey) of McDonough, James R. Firebaugh III of Atlanta, GA and Stanley M. Firebaugh (Debbie) of Mableton; grandchildren, Mhari Louise Patterson of Brookhaven; Blake Sumner of Atlanta, Katherine Corrine Firebaugh of Boston, James Harrison Firebaugh (Hannah) of Dallas, GA; great granddaughter, Amelia Grace Firebaugh of Dallas, GA; sister, Jackie Jones of Anchorage, Alaska; sister-in-law, Sharon McGarity Anderson(Joe) of Clayton and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be at McDonough Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Nicole Lock officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in McDonough.
