Sarah Mardelle Sowell

Mrs. Sarah Mardelle Hooten Sowell, age 98, of Snellville, GA, formerly of McDonough, GA passed away July 14, 2016. Mrs. Sowell was born in Henry County the daughter of the late Missouri Lee Austin Hooten and Limmie Moses Hooten; she was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Sowell Sr; her son, Carl Setzer Sowell Jr. ; and siblings, Huey, J. D. and Billy Hooten. Mrs. Sowell was a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church where she served in all areas of the church and enjoyed visiting everyone when she was able. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother and a good friend to all. She enjoyed gardening, arranging flowers, cooking, sewing, visiting shut-ins, and hosting midnight breakfasts for her friends. Survivors are her daughter-in-law, Le Sowell of Lawrenceville, granddaughters, Ashley Sowell of Norcross and Carla Segars and husband, Chris of Winder; great grandchildren, Jackson Carl Segars and Kenzie Segars; brother, Harold Hooten and wife, Anne of McDonough; sister-in-law, Catherine Hooten of McDonough; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 17, 2016, 3:00 – 5:00 PM. Funeral Service will be on Monday, July 18, 2016 – 10:00 AM at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Al O’Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund.
