Per Charles request there will be no formal service, a private family interment will take place on a later date.
Charles was born in Moody, Texas to Henry and Johnnie Ivy (Lee) Schaefer. After graduating from Moody High School, he joined the United States Navy in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1950. He married the love of his life, Norma Jean Cook, on February 24, 1955 and February of this year they celebrated their 60thwedding anniversary. Charles worked in administration for several different companies including Rocket Dyne and Hercules. After retiring in 1992, to his daughter’s dismay, fearing for his safety, Charles became a volunteer for the McGregor Police Dept. He later became employed with them for 16 years which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Charles was an avid gun collector, hunter and fisherman. He also excelled at Bench Rest Competition shooting matches. Although he enjoyed those activities, his wife, daughter, and family were the light of his life. We are heart broken, but we were truly blessed to have to have been given the opportunity to love him and to be loved by him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and what he considered his furry four legged granddogs, Billie, Harley and Morgan.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Norma Jean Schaefer; his adored daughter, Kathy Jean Townsley and her husband Kenneth who he also considered his son; sister, Mary McSpadden and husband Hugh; niece, Moira McSpadden; sister-in-law, Frances Nell Rogers and his nephews, Gary, Michael Wayne and Charles Lee.
The family wishes to thank Westview Manor and Providence Hospice for the dignity for which they treated Charles.
In lieu of flower the family request that donations may be made to the charity of choice or the McGregor Fire Department.
