

Elizabeth Elvira Smith went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2010. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Moody, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Rev. Stan Ortner officiating. Interment will follow in Flint Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 P.M. Friday at Cole Funeral Home.
Elizabeth was born on July 2, 1913, the daughter of the late U.L. and Minnie Hardin at the Hardin homestead on Preacher’s Creek, between Flat and The Grove, Texas. She married Andrew Smith in Leon Junction, Texas. Elizabeth raised her family on a Flint Creek farm outside of Flat, Texas.
She served her family and friends wonderful, homegrown food and never lost her love of serving family. In later years she enjoyed participating with husband A. J. in the Eastern Star organization. She served the Lord for many years as a member First Baptist Church of Flat, until she moved to Moody, Texas after the death of her husband. She was active in First Baptist Church of Moody until she moved to a nursing home in 2005.
Also preceding her in death were her husband of almost fifty years, A.J. Smith, a daughter, Carolyn Combs and a grandson, Darren Smith.
Surviving family include two sons Doyle Smith, Darrell Smith; two daughters Nadine Holt, Lagene Sands. Elizabeth also leaves 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. She also mothered and nurtured numerous other children.
