

Jim Horton of McGregor passed away, Monday morning, July 29, 2013, at the age of 82. Memorial services with military honors will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Jim Haley and Rev. Henry Horton officiating. Private inurnment will be in Levita Cemetery in Coryell County.
Mr. Horton was born July 17, 1931, in Siloam, Kentucky the son of the late James T. and Sarah Edith (Wright) Horton and was a 1949 graduate of McKell High School. From August 10, 1951 until his honorable discharge November 9, 1962, he served his country in the United States Air Force. While living in Mississippi, he was a member of the Southern Star Masonic Lodge 500 in Long Beach, Mississippi. Throughout his life he was an artist who enjoyed the pleasure of playing golf.
On January 28, 1963, he married Jessie Mae Hatfield in Tampa, Florida. After thirty-seven years of marriage, she preceded him in death March 18, 2000. Later, on August 23, 2008, he married the former Betty Jean Olson Crelia in McGregor.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Horton; a step-son Billy Crelia of Bellmead, Jim Haley and wife Dianna of Pearl; two daughters, Lucy Horton of McGregor, Traci Boland and husband Chuck of Missouri; two step-daughters, Mildred Yeley and husband Steve of Pearl, Janet White of McGregor; three brothers, Gene Horton and wife Carol of Ohio, Tommy Horton and wife Toni of North Carolina, David Horton and wife Anna Belle of Ohio; four sisters, Carolyn Dunlap and husband Terry of Ohio, Maxine Bringenberg and husband Ken of Ohio, Betty Arnold and husband Dale of Pennsylvania Lu Steele and husband Frank of Georgia; ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
