

Juanita Cooper of McGregor, formerly of El Monte, California, died early Friday morning, May 13, 2011, at the age of 93. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at College Avenue Baptist Church 201 South Monroe Street, McGregor with Reverend David Thompson officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor.
Services in Whittier California will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 27, 2011, at Rose Hill Memorial Park’s Hillside Chapel with interment to follow.
Mrs. Cooper was born October 16, 1917, in McGregor, Texas, the daughter of the late Horace Calvin and Cora Lee (Tubbs) Renfro. She began her education at South Bosque and excelled in basketball, scoring 92 points in a game with an average of 48.3 points per game. She was also a member of three McLennan County championship teams. She completed her senior year at McGregor High School, graduating in 1935. On July 29, 1937, she married Gilbert Adams Cooper in McGregor. After fifty-seven years of marriage, he preceded her in death April 13, 1995.
In 1938 she and Gilbert moved to El Monte, California where she made her home. She was a member of Shepherd of The Hills Church in Monterey Park, CA before returning to Crawford in 2005. Throughout her life, she enjoyed crocheting and playing card games, especially Hollywood Rummy and was an avid fan of the LA Lakers Basketball Team.
Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Harold, Hubert, Edwin, Hardy Renfro; two sisters Glady Wheat and Rosa Lee Crain.
Survivors include two sons, John Cooper of Crawford, Gary Cooper and wife Carlene of Indio, California; a grandson, Kevin
Cooper and granddaughter, Kristin Wullschleger; three great grandchildren, Reese Cooper, Nathan Cooper and Adam Wullschleger.
