Avery M. Currie, 82, of Mechanicsville, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 after a brave battle. He was born on March 11, 1937 in Red Springs, N.C. to the late Bill Currie and Virgie Brigman Billingsley. In addition to his parents, Avery was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Currie. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Anne Currie; children, Avery Jr. (Sue), Mike (Dena), and Cynthia; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and brother, Curtis Currie. Avery graduated from Clarkton High School and attended N.C. State University. He worked for C.F. Sauers for 20 years and in textiles for 15 years. After retirement, he opened his own business with his wife and son that the family continues to run to date. Avery enjoyed spending his free time golfing, fishing, boating, spending quality time with his family, as well as volunteering as fireman for over 10 years. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. in Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, Va. 23069. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Henry Volunteer Fire Department, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
