A devoted educator, mentor, and coach, Charles dedicated his life to shaping young minds both in the classroom and on the field. He was a proud graduate of Collegiate School, class of 1965, and continued his studies at St. Andrews Presbyterian College before transferring to the University of Richmond, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1969. His passion for education led him to teach at Mecklenburg Academy in Chase City, and later, he pursued a Master of Education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Over the years, he shared his love of science with middle school students at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and several schools in Chesterfield County, where he also served as assistant headmaster. He finished his career teaching at Salem Church Middle School in Chesterfield County before retiring.
Beyond the classroom, Charles found great joy in coaching sports, particularly baseball, which remained his lifelong favorite. His leadership and guidance, whether on the court, the field, or in the hallways of the schools he served, left a lasting impact on countless students and athletes.
