

HERREN, David Rae, 69, died suddenly at his home on June 27, 2011. He was born August 4, 1941, in Richmond, Virginia, and was a graduate of John Marshall High School. He proudly served his country as an airman in the United States Air Force from June 1962 to March 1966, and was stationed in Bitburg, Germany. While there he formed a rock 'n' roll twist band, The Sonics, who toured Europe and opened for Johnny Cash and Sam Cooke. He worked as a salesman for WGOE Radio, H&H Mailing, and various printing companies in the Richmond area. Mr. Herren loved music, auto racing, was an accomplished trumpet and guitar player, and a loving friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Carol H. and Michael K. Blaylock; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Christopher D. and Gina R. Herren; granddaughters, Gabriele, Elizabeth and Katherine Herren; and sisters, Wilhelmina M. Herren and Joanna M. Herren. A gathering to celebrate his life will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2011, from 2 until 4 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, Atlee, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.
