

TYLER, Col. James Edward Jr., retired, 83, of Rockville, Va., born April 8, 1931, passed away peacefully at home with his family, April 12, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Tyler Sr. and Ella Sara Kay Tyler; and his sister, Jeanne Kay Tyler. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise W. Tyler; his daughters, Debra Kay Tyler and Karen T. Bryant and husband, Edgar; his son, James E. Tyler III "Jimmy"; six devoted grandchildren, Tracy Adams and husband, Gary, Kevin McDaniel and wife, Amy, Michael McDaniel and wife, Amanda, Aaron Tyler, Taylor Marie Tyler, James E. Tyler IV "Eddie"; four devoted great- grandchildren, Aarica Kelly, Brian Kelly, Hannah McDaniel, Kamryn McDaniel; and two great grandchildren on the way, Tyler McDaniel and Autumn Vlastuin.
He was a proud alumni of John Marshall High School, class of 1948, where he was a member of the John Marshall Cadet Corps, and Captain of the John Marshall Band. He served 37 years in the Virginia Army National Guard from 1948 to 1986, was President of the National Guard Association, served on the Board of Directors at Partners Financial Federal Credit Union, past President of Rockville Ruritan Club, past Manager of Rockville Community Center, Member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, having served as a Deacon and Elder.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, April 17, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville. Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, April 18, at the funeral home. Full Military Honors burial to follow services at Signal Hill Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
