Janet McEwen Mitchell

Janet Mitchell March 26, 1931 - May 6, 2021 Janet McEwen Mitchell, of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away on Thursday morning, May 6, 2021 at age 90. She will be sadly missed by her children Kevin (Judy Patterson) Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL, Leslie (Richard) Wojciechowicz of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Bradley (Rebecca) Mitchell of Mechanicsville, VA, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her brother Charles McEwen of Arizona. Janet was born in Michigan and moved to Ohio at an early age. She graduated from high school and attended Bowling Green University before being employed by Toledo Scale. In Toledo, she met her husband on a blind date. She began her married life in Indiana where she started her family. Moving to McLean VA in 1966, she worked as the secretary for the principal of Bishop Denis J. O’Connell before retiring to Punta Gorda FL in 1990. Returning to Virginia following hurricane Charley in 2005, she settled in Dumfries before ultimately moving to Mechanicsville in 2015. She will be laid to rest beside her husband of almost 60 years, Ronald C. Mitchell, on July 19, 2021, in Quantico, VA. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, and 6 brothers.
