He was born on December 30, 1936 to the late Raymond Holly Sawyer and Ruby Allen Sawyer. He graduated from John Marshall High School then started a career with Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company from which he would later retire. Additionally, he was an avid farmer raising black angus cattle. Raymond enjoyed tennis and was a Little League baseball coach for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Patricia; and children, Susannah, Keith (Cheryl), Mark, Joelynn (Allen) and Edward (Whitney); in addition to nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was generous and loving and cherished his family and friends. Raymond was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Hanover.
Visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home on Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville on Thursday, January 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery on Friday, January 17, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
