James “Jim” was born in Fairland, OK., to Charles and Juanita Long on February 25, 1945. He went to school in Hood River, OR. He married Barbara Chappell (Askins) on November 25, 1989 in Trail, OR. He worked for the IBEW as a tree trimmer for many years, and later drove rock trucks for Vale Womelsdorph at Top Rock Construction until retirement. He was a part of Oregon National Guard for 12 years. Jim was a member of the Butte Creek Baptist Church along with his wife. He enjoyed playing guitar with his friends for many of the assisted living facilities in the area, and having early morning coffee and sharing jokes with his buddies. His greatest treasure was his dad's ‘72 Chevy pickup with which he was awarded many trophies.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother and father, along with two of his sisters, Ooala Shockley and Arawana Riley, and his middle daughter Cynthia Trotchie.
Jim is survived by his spouse Barbara, his daughters Lisa Long and Karen Long/sp. Bob, step children Rick Chappell/sp. Barb, Ronald Chappell/sp. Judi, Ryan Chappell/sp. Kathy, his sister Lela Abernathy and brother Charles "Ben" Long/sp. Joan, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many close friends whom he called family.
Memorials may be given to Butte Creek Baptist Church in Eagle Point, OR, and/or Asante Hospice. The family of Jim Long wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Asante Hospice for the loving care they provided to him and the family in his last days.
