

Gene Brewer, 95, passed away peacefully one week after a stroke, on November 9, 2017 at The Springs at Veranda Park in Medford, OR. He was born under a cottonwood tree (it was too hot in the house) on June 19, 1922 in Caprock, NM to William & Emma Brewer. He was the youngest of eight children. All of his siblings have predeceased him. Gene served in the Army in World War II in the South Pacific, mostly in New Guinea, from 1940 - 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He married Donna Johnson in 1946 in Eugene, OR. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2017. They moved to Camarillo, CA where they raised their family. Gene was an electrician in Eugene, OR and Ventura County, CA for 37 years. Upon his retirement in 1984, they returned to Oregon, settling in Yachats and then to Medford in 1995. Gene was a gentle and loving man with a great sense of humor. He & Donna spent many good years traveling internationally to Europe, Australia & Scandinavia and in the US in their RV. His life-long church family from Camarillo, CA was very important to him. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Gene & Donna spent the last seven years very happily with many friends at the Springs at Veranda Park. Gene was preceded in death by his son, Richard. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna, a son, William (Marlene) of Las Vegas, NV, daughters Judith McQuone (Mark) of Medford, OR, and Patricia Bolander of Talent, OR, two granddaughters, Katie Stanke and Julie Bolander, one great-grandson, Michael Stanke, and nine step-grandchildren, and eleven step-great-grandchildren. Gene will be laid to rest at Eagle Point National Cemetery. There will be a memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Dr., Medford, OR 97504, on December 8, 2017 at 1:30 PM, with Pastor Lori Boehning officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
