Barbara Shapiro Sparks

Barbara Shapiro Sparks, 82, lifelong Memphian, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. A retired real estate agent and former owner of the Nip & Tuck and the Daisy Tree clothing stores, Mrs. Sparks was a 1950 graduate of Central High School and graduate of Memphis State University. Funeral services for Mrs. Sparks will be on Friday, November 21 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Levy Cooper Chapel in Temple Israel Cemetery, 1708 Hernando Road, Memphis, TN 38106. Senior Rabbi Micah D. Greenstein will conduct the service. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents William and Yetta Shapiro and brothers Julius and Joseph Shapiro. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Loren S. Sparks; daughters Yvonne Sparks Levine (Paul) of Germantown and Lynn Sparks Sutherland of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Mindy Levine Hughes of Germantown, Megan Levine Ferran (Max) of Mandeville, LA; and Jacob Sutherland of Seymour, TN; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials in her honor may be offered to Temple Israel Synagogue, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the organization of the donor’s choice.
