Benjamin Matthew Mauck M.D.

Ben was born on April 11, 1980, in Covington, Va., to Ann and Gregory Mauck. He grew up in West Tennessee and attended Hardin County High School in Savannah, Tenn., where he was a standout basketball player who always looked out for those around him and helped lead his team to become one of the best-ranked schools in the state. Athletic, outgoing and incredibly genuine even in his youth, Ben made the TSSAA All-Star Basketball team in 1998 and earned a basketball scholarship to Western Kentucky University.

In 2002, Ben graduated from Lambuth University and went on to complete his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Post-doctoral studies included an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at UT-Campbell Clinic in Memphis and a Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. A member of the Memphis Medical Society, Ben was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and held an additional Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand. He joined the staff at Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics in Memphis in 2012 and also served as director of the Congenital Hand Deformities Clinic at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Ben and Rhiannon were married on May 12, 2007. Having met in college, they shared nearly twenty beautiful years together. Ben was a dedicated family man and beloved friend. An avid outdoorsman, he shared his love for fishing and hunting with family and friends, most especially seeking out any opportunity to spend time in nature with his true love, Rhiannon, and their two young children. A devoted husband, father, brother and son, Ben was incredibly proud to be a dad and loved his wife and children beyond measure, constantly sharing photos and stories with family. He embraced any excuse to get together with those he loved and could always be counted on to bring the goofy, over-the-top humor it took to elicit a smile or a laugh from his loved ones. Ever generous with his time and energy, Ben was available for anyone who needed him and truly felt at home and at peace whenever he was helping others.

As a physician, Ben was a gifted surgeon, a superb teacher and a compassionate and easygoing mentor to many. Highly regarded for his compassionate bedside manner, he had an innate ability to help his patients feel at ease. Those in his care often made note of Ben’s positivity, attention to detail, kind demeanor and humble spirit, remarking that his passion for his work was plainly evident. An expert in congenital hand surgery, Ben improved the lives of countless children, demonstrating a dogged approach to the pursuit of excellence in every aspect of his practice. He never sought praise or professional accolades; he simply wanted to do the work he loved and help change his patients’ lives for the better.

Ben was preceded in death by his grandparents, Benjamin F. and Florence Mauck, and George and Frances Hession.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rhiannon and his two small children - a son and daughter; his parents, Ann and Gregory Mauck; siblings, Samuel “Sam” Mauck and his family, Rebecca “Becky” Gentry and her family and Amanda Mauck and her husband; and a far-reaching community of aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, friends, physicians, classmates and colleagues, all of whom Ben championed and adored.

A memorial funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 10:30AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3863 Summer Ave., Memphis, Tenn. Father Ben Bradshaw will preside.

Gifts in memory of Ben Mauck may be made to Ducks Unlimited at www.ducks.org, Memorial Giving. All gifts will be directed to the Ducks Unlimited Youth and Education Scholarship Program. Scholarship recipients will be awarded checks released to the student’s two-year accredited school/community college, four-year college/university or trade/technical school.
