Bernice Stewart was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi to Ida Hood and Wash Stewart on September 26, 1930. She accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age. She continued her Christian life until her final call. She was educated in Holly Springs, Mississippi and majored in meal preparation, upholstery and caregiving. She married Ernest Echols (deceased) and to this union 8 children were born, 6 sons and 2 daughters. Johnnie Victor, Lynnwood (deceased), Curtis, Leon, Ernest, Jr. and Donald: Patricia and Ida. She later married Roscoe Henderson, who preceded her in death. Known for her delicious and mouth savoring meals, she also had expertise in caregiving for the young and old. Bernice retired from the Holiday Inn as a drapery and upholstery finisher. She leaves to cherish her memories a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and acquaintances. The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, 2020 from 5-7pm and the funeral service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10am, all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. Memphis. Interment will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Rd. Memphis.
