A lifelong Memphian, she was born to Charles Edward McCall and Bertha Norris McCall on October 12th, 1920.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Don Newman, a well known photographer in Memphis. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers Edward, Clifford, and Milton McCall.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Mehr; granddaughter Leigh Ann Carkeet (Geoff), and great granddaughters Kendall and Maddie Carkeet. She also leaves several nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
A devoted Christian, she was a lifelong member at Ridgeway Baptist Church. She especially loved her Sunday school class- the "Esther class".
She loved to travel. She and Don traveled extensively in the US, Canada, Hawaii and several trips Mexico.
She was an avid reader in her later years. She was a resident at Kirby Pines for 11 years.
Bertha Mae lived a long and rewarding life helping her husband in his photography business and enjoying her friends and family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar, on Thursday, February 8th with visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am.
