

David Hayes Heaton, Sr., 62, of Memphis, passed away on April 1, 2016. Born in Clarksdale, MS on August 2, 1953, David graduated from Overton High School, earned his BS degree from Southern Methodist College, and attended Seminary at the New Orleans Theological Seminary and Clarksdale School of Theology. He served as a Southern Methodist Minister for many years, and most recently attended Gateway Baptist Church and was active in recovery ministries. He was a diligent student of the Word of God, and over the years, he compiled a book of more than 10,000 sermons he had written during his career. David enjoyed coaching basketball and football, and he was proud to have coached an undefeated basketball team at Elliston Baptist Church. Mr. Heaton taught his children to love each other and that people are always more important than things. He was preceded in death by two children, Mary Elisabeth and Matthew Robert; and his father, Hayes George Heaton. David is survived by his son, David H. Heaton, Jr. (Alana); his daughter, Susanna W. Hurst (Michael); his mother, Gladys L. Heaton; his sister, Sally Heaton; his brother, Don W. Heaton; and nine grandchildren, Kathren H. Hurst, Jakob T. Hurst, Lucy D. Heaton, Matthew R. Hurst, Rose E. Heaton, Andrew W. Hurst, June E. Heaton, Hayes G. Heaton, and Lauren M. Hurst; and many other loving family and dear friends. The family will gather to receive friends on Monday, April 4, at 1:00 p.m., and funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Family Funeral Care on Summer Avenue.
