She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Jerry Peoples, and her parents, Gene and Frances Johnson.
She is survived by her sister, Jan York; two brothers, Andy Johnson (Ruth Ann) and Gary Johnson (Mary); her nephews, James Paul Lewis, Terry Lewis, Buddy Bell; and her nieces, Sabrina Wright, Chantele Adams, and Jana Noble. She also leaves her dear friend, Denise Littlefield, who for many years managed her personal and business affairs.
Debbie was born in Lebanon, MO and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1973. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant at Holiday Inns (later becoming Hilton Hotels and Resorts) in Memphis, TN where she met the love of her life, Jerry Peoples in 1982. They were married in 1989.
After retiring from Hilton Hotels, Debbie assisted her husband in researching, developing, and building two local upscale senior living facilities—Germantown Plantation Senior Living Community in Germantown, TN and Silvercreek Senior Living Community in Olive Branch, MS.
Debbie was known by all as a ray of sunshine, devoted wife, and world-class bargain shopper! She will be missed by her family, her friends, and the staff of her businesses.
Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar, Saturday, December 31 from 9:00 until 10:00 AM, with funeral services following at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Debbie loved children and requested that all donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, in lieu of floral remembrances.
