
Dorsey S. Childress of Memphis, born April 6th, 1930 in Oxford, Mississippi, passed away April 20th at Baptist Hospital Memphis after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by mother, Marie Steed Childress of Memphis and father Dorsey D. Childress of Abbeville. He graduated in 1947 from Southside High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a pilot and crop duster and retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad after 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a Shriner, Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. Mr. Childress is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Evelyn Harris Childress, his sister, Joy Coleman, nieces Melissa and Sarah Blankenship, great nieces Kathryn and Avery McPherson all of Memphis. Known by his family as Bubba, he was loved for his tremendous sense of humor and recounting stories of his wilder youth. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7pm at Memphis Funeral Home with services Tuesday 1pm. Burial to follow at Ridgecrest cemetery, Jackson Tennessee. Memorials may be sent to West clinic.
