Her parents were Noland and Marybelle Ezell, who preceded her in death. Ellie was born in Memphis, graduated from Lausanne and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was married to Robert (Bob) Appling for 45 years until his death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Ezell Cottam King. She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Ezell Berry, (David) of Chattanooga, TN, and five nephews.
Ellie was a very active member of St. Luke’s UMC for 45 years until she moved to the Village at Germantown in 2006 and joined Germantown UMC, where she was a member of the Lamplighters Sunday School Class. She was one of the earliest residents of the Village at Germantown and loved living there. She was very involved in the Village's activities and committees. Ellie spent her life serving others and made everyone feel special.
Ellie requests that memorials be made to the Village at Germantown Foundation, Germantown UMC, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Services will be private.
