Eugene Mangiante

Eugene C. Mangiante, Sr., 89 died Saturday, July 23 2011 peacefully at home. Gene was a retired midtown grocer and lifelong Memphian. He attended Catholic High School and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Memphis Bocce Club and the Holy Spirit Fun Club. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amelia Mangiante; brothers, Joseph and Louis Mangiante; and sister, Marie Giannini. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret; and his two children Mimi (David) Schmitz and Eugene (Carol) Mangiante Jr.; 4 grandchildren, Drew, Gene, Beth and Anne; and 6 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to his care givers, Adrienne and Shakeyla for their kindness and joyful attention. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, July 25. and the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Funeral Mass will be July 26, at 1:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family requests memorial be made to De La Salle Elementary School in Memphis.
