Hiram George Wood, Jr.

H. George Wood, Jr., age 77, Memphis, Tennessee, went home to the Lord on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025. He was born in Memphis on April 21, 1948 to Hiram G. Wood, Sr. and Louise Bailey Wood of Selmer, Tennessee, where Hiram ran a dental practice and Louise worked as a nurse.

George attended Southwestern at Memphis (Rhodes College) where he met his beloved wife of 51 years, Catherine Laster Wood. He graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts and later graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center – Memphis in 1979 with a Doctor of Pharmacy.

George worked as a pharmacist in Memphis for the Baptist hospital system and Walgreens for 30 years.

George married Catherine in 1974. They had two daughters, Amy Wood (Ben Kennedy) of Memphis and Emily Baulig (John) of Greenville, South Carolina. He has a step-grandson, Charles Kennedy and two grandchildren, Honest and Hezekiah Baulig.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

George lived a life of service. He was very active at Lindenwood Christian Church where he served as an elder, a Stephen minister, and as chairman of several other ministries. He was an Eagle Scout and a 33rd Degree Master Mason.

His visitation will be held at Lindenwood Christian Church at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 30, immediately followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Lindenwood Christian Church, 2400 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN 38112. A reception will follow afterwards, at the church.
