James met his lifetime sweetheart, Peggy, in 1975. In 1985, they married and two children were born to them, Phillip and Jada. James was baptized in the church of God in 1986. He served in the Living Church of God with joy, song leading, leading prayer, ushering and greeting members and guests. James was a teacher for his family.
