James McGowan, 85, passed away at Arbors of Schilling Gardens Assisted Living in Collierville on March 2, 2011. Mr. McGowan was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen, sons James T., Michael, and Thomas McGowan, also his sister Marie Hecker, and his brother Jack McGowan. He is survived in death by his wife Alice Kroh McGowan, two sons Martin and Bryan P. McGowan, grandchildren Sean and Shannon McGowan, and sister Regina McSorley. Mr. McGowan was an Army Air Corp veteran and retired as a Deputy Chief Inspector for the New York City Police Department, serving for 35 years. Visitation will be today, Friday, March 4th, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Poplar Avenue with Mass beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 7th, at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
