

John Robert McDonald, Jr., 94, went to be with the Lord at noon on Monday, October 11, 2010. Jack, as he was known, was born on April 21, 1916, in Memphis, TN, to Lena Barcroft McDonald and John Robert McDonald, Sr. He was predeceased by his sister Valerie McDonald O’Hearn and his son-in-law James Arthur Kallaher. Jack graduated from Central High School and in 1941 married Mary Katherine Lowe. He later served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as an airplane mechanic. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked for Stratton-Warren Hardware before starting his own hardware business, Park Avenue Hardware. In the early 1960’s, he joined Seabrook Paint and Wallpaper as an outside salesman and retired from Seabrook after more than 25 years’ service. He and his wife of 69 years, Mary Katherine, have been members of First Evangelical Church for 45 years. Along with his beloved Mary Katherine, he leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Kathy McDonald Kallaher and his son John Robert McDonald III (Carrie Jeanne). His grandchildren who loved and will miss him are James A. Kallaher, Jr. (Cynthia), John Thomas Kallaher (Dawn), Karen Marie Kallaher, Jennifer Maureen McDonald, Jessica Michelle McDonald Wagner (Jonathan), Jacquelyn Melissa McDonald, John Robert McDonald IV, and Michael Phillip McDonald. Great-grandchildren are Daniel, Matthew, Andrew, Meghan, and Colin Kallaher, all of Memphis, TN. Visitation is Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. at First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridgelake Blvd., with the service at 2p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to First Evangelical Missions Fund or Evangelical Christian School, PO Box 1030, Cordova, TN 38088.
