John Victor Shaner

John was born in Sharon, PA, November 17, 1947, the son of Robert Carter and Eleanor Shaner, both of whom have preceded him in death. After graduating from High School in Vienna, Ohio, he studied broadcasting prior to enlisting in the US Marine Corp in 1966 as a helicopter mechanic. He served in Vietnam for two years and was honourably discharged in February, 1972. During his military service, John was awarded the following medals and decorations: National Defence Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, S/F Air Medal Meritorious Mast, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal and Combat Air Crew Insignia.

After his discharge from the military, John moved to Memphis, TN and worked for thirty-five years at Shaner’s Printing in Memphis, TN. as a pressman. In John’s spare time he enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and shooting pool.

John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Margaret “Liz” Shaner of Horn Lake, MS, his son, Thomas Shaner and wife Janet of Coppell. TX, and two grandsons, Jeffrey and Nathan Shaner, also of Dallas TX. He also leaves his sister, Lorraine Ann Shaner of Concord, CA, a brother, Nelson Shaner of Savannah, GA, and a bother Matthew Shaner of Lockheed, CA.
