

Loretta Dickson, age 90, of Memphis, TN went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 4, 2026. She was born October 14, 1935 in Ashport, TN and graduated from Treadwell High School, Memphis, TN in 1954. She was blessed to attend Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC for two years followed by three years of evening classes at Memphis State University.
Loretta was employed as a secretary with Sears Roebuck Catalog Sales at the Crosstown Memphis store for 17 years before pursuing a federal career with the U.S. State Department in Washington, DC. She served as a secretarial staff member with the U.S. Foreign Service in American embassies around the world including Hong Kong; Amman, Jordan; Tunis, Tunisia; London, England; Cairo, Egypt; Sydney, Australia; and Bangkok, Thailand where she was secretary to U.S. Ambassador David Lambertson. Following her overseas assignments, Loretta returned to Washington, DC and completed her federal career retiring with 23 years of service before returning home to Memphis.
Loretta was a longtime member of Merton Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis and later joined Kirby Woods Baptist Church in 2004. She was active in many ministries there and was a faithful member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and a loyal choir member. She loved going on church mission trips and had opportunities to serve in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, South Africa. She was a steadfast Christian who loved the Lord and studied his word.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Dickson and Elizabeth Woods Dickson Feathers, and her sister, Bonna Jean Dickson Aquila. She is survived by many cousins and friends who admired and loved her dearly. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the exceptional staff at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House for their support, kindness, and compassionate care; and, also heartfelt appreciation to Loretta’s longtime friend, Ann Scalzo, who lovingly assisted her with daily life and activities for many years.
Funeral services will be provided by Family Funeral Care, Memphis, TN. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery, Arp, TN at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
