Louis Anthony Sampson, 90, passed away peacefully at his home July, 25, 2018. A third generation Memphian, he attended Christian Brothers High School, where he was All-State in football. Mr. Sampson was a veteran of the United States Army and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He was a founding member of St. Louis Catholic Church, where he served on the financial board and as a lector and Eucharistic minister. A very active community leader, he was also a member of the founding board of St. Agnes Academy and served on the board of Christian Brothers High School. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, was a member the Serra Club, and was an inductee to Christian Brothers Hall of Fame. He was an Account Executive with Merrill Lynch for more than 35 years before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen C. Sampson; parents, William A. Sampson, Sr. and Nora Hummel Sampson; two sisters, Sister Maria Sampson, SCN and Ruth Sampson, and a brother, William A. Sampson, Jr.
He is survived by four daughters, Maureen Miller (Douglas) of Lewes, Delaware, Eileen Porter (Gary) of Huntersville, North Carolina, Kathleen Sampson and Megan Sampson, both of Memphis, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Sarah Bergner (Landon), Laura Lund (Christian), Jonathan Miller, Garrett Porter, Sutton Porter (Emily) and Collin Porter, and one great-grandson, Theodore Bergner.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home located at 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 31 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Louis Catholic Church, 203 S. White Station Road, Memphis, Tennessee. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1663 Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mr. Sampson may be made to Christian Brothers High School, St. Agnes Academy or St. Louis Catholic Church.
