Today we're here to remember my uncle, a man whose heart was always turned outward. He was a giving man-someone who showed up, helped out, and put others first without asking for much in return. If you needed something, chances are he was already figuring out how to help.

He gave his time, his energy, his care. He gave pieces of himself freely. And maybe the hardest truth to say out loud is this: he gave so much to everyone else that he  didn't always give back to himself. That doesn't take away from who he was. If anything, it shows just how deeply he cared. He loved in actions more than words. He carried burdens quietly. And even We didn't always see what he was carrying, and we didn't always know how much he needed rest, kindness, or grace for himself. 

But today, we choose to see him fully-not just for what he gave, but for who he was.He mattered. His life mattered. The way he loved mattered. And the space he leaves behind is real and deeply felt.

If there's anything we can take from his life, it's this: be generous, yes-but also be gentle with ourselves. And know that giving back to ourselves is not selfish, but part of being a human being. Check in on one another. And don't forget that even the strongest, most giving people need care too and remind them to not forget about themselves. We honor him today with gratitude, with love, and with the promise to remember him not only for what he gave, but for the person he was.

So sorry to learn of the passing of Marcellous. I have such fond memories of Junebug, as neighbors we grew up together on Cedar Hill and attended school together.  Even though, in school he was three grades ahead of me, he always wanted to compared report cards.
