Mary was born in Obion County, Tennessee to the late Jesse and Lena Henderson Cloys.
She retired from the Commercial Appeal Newspaper twice. First from circulation in 1965 and then finally in 1990 as a switchboard operator. She also owned Getwell Liquor store for 35 years purchasing it in 1985 and selling it in 2020.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, on the vestry board for many years. She had many friends, loved gardening and growing flowers, music and making other laugh. Ruth loved her faith, family and serving others. As everyone has called and said the past few days, "she was a ray of sunshine, beautiful and kind to everyone".
Along with her parents Mrs. Irick was preceded in death by her husband Charles Irick; and two brothers George and Harvey Cloys.
Ruth is survived by her children Michael Hayes and Angela Humphrey; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, August 23 from one o'clock until funeral services begin at two o'clock in the afternoon all at Memphis Funeral Home located at 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.
