It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of my mother at the age of 87. Mary was the youngest of 7 children born to Robert and Ellie Ballard on February 5, 1928 in Montezuma, TN. She was a member of West Frayser Baptist Church for over 58 years.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband William Sykes in 1979. Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Anita Bernard; her son-in-law, Commander Jeff Bernard, USN; four grandchildren, Bill, Natasha, Celeste and Samantha, and three great-grandchildren, William, Hailey, and Jovie.
The family will receive friends, Thursday March 5, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday March 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Interment will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange, Memphis, TN 38134.
