Randy was born on September 9, 1943, to Oliver Holmes Greebon and Lorena Clifton Greebon in the small West Texas town of Eden. After Oliver Holmes and his brother Fred were killed serving in the Pacific with the United States Navy during World War II, Lorena married Robert Burns and together they raised Randy along with his sister Barbara in Eden. Growing up, Randy had foundational experiences spending time on the Greebon family farm in Millersview with his grandmother, Lillie Ann Greebon, his grandfather Billy Greebon, his uncle Sid Greebon, and his aunt Tena Greebon.
After graduating Eden High School, he went to Lubbock, Texas to study at Texas Tech University where he met Jackie Greebon. They married in 1964. They went on to have two treasured children, Scott and Kim. He and Jackie divorced in 2001. Randy served as an officer and pilot in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command for twenty years where he flew a variety of aircraft, most notably the FB-111 Aardvark, a supersonic, multirole combat aircraft where he established some of the closest friendships of his life. He ultimately ascended to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he continued to pursue his passion for flight by training pilots for FedEx in Memphis, Tennessee. During this time, he met his beloved Barbara. They were married in 2005, and he spent the rest of his life with her.
Together with Barbara, he became an avid golfer, savored wine, traveled extensively, and became a blend family with Barbara's children, Kristen and Jeff, and their families. Throughout his life, Randy embraced exhilarating and joyful experiences with family and friends ranging from flying private planes, to snow skiing, water skiing, and listening to his favorite music artists. He was an enthusiastic football fan and spent autumns cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, his Red Raiders, and the university of his children, the Texas A&M Aggies. Randy was predeceased by his parents Oliver Greebon, Lorena Burns, Robert Burns, and stepdaughter Kristen Ames Melton. He is survived by his wife Barbara Greebon, his children Scott Greebon (Amy), Kim Greebon Taylor (Jim), his stepson Jeff Ames, his grandchildren Elizabeth Greebon, Caroline Greebon, Cameron Taylor, Hannah Melton, Sara Cate Melton, Kaley Ames, and his sister Barbara Burns Flowers (Ralph).
Friends and family are invited to attend services which will be held at Germantown Presbyterian Church on April 12 at 10:30 AM in Warren Hall. Donations in Randy's honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
