
Robert Lynn Armour, 91, flew his final flight on March 6, 2017. Born December 23, 1925 to Bill and Lucille Armour in Cayce, Mississippi. Lynn loved flying his entire life and shared the story of watching Charles Lindbergh fly over his family farm. Upon graduation from Collierville High School he joined the United States Army Air Force as a flight engineer on the B-24/B-29 during World War II. Lynn remained in the aviation industry until his 90th year of life, and was recognized as a Charles Taylor Master Mechanic and a Wright Brothers Master Pilot, two of the most prestigious awards given by the FAA. He was a member of Woodland Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, where he served as an Elder, and on the board of Woodland Day School. He was a member of Mustangs of Memphis where he loved to show his award winning Mustangs.
He was preceeded in death by his wife of 49 years Margaret Lanier Armour and his granddaughter Leslie Anne Armour. He leaves two daughters Margie Armour and Nancy Armour Appling (Murphy) as well as two sons, Robert Lynn Armour Jr (Juli) and John Armour (Mary). He was very proud of his grandchildren Ada Appling Moore (Ryan), Robert Lynn Armour III (Kacey), Thomas Murphy Appling Jr, Michael Taylor Armour (Skylar), Jacqueline Armour, and six great grandchildren. He also leaves his brother J.W. Armour and sister Elner Rainey. He was preceeded in death by his brother Billy Armour and sister Ann Richmond. He was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Lynn Armour truly loved His God, and his life reflected this as a humble servant, slow to speak but always with wisdom and kindness.
Visitation at Memphis Funeral Home, March 8, 2017, 4:30-7:00 pm. There will be a memorial service at Woodland Presbyterian Church on Thursday, March 9th at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lynn’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation..
